Meet the Physician

Dr. Ruchira Varshney, D.O.

Guiding you to your happiest, healthiest self.

Early influences

Dr. Varshney was influenced from childhood on by her family’s focus on healthy living. She regularly traveled to India, where she was immersed in her Indian heritage that emphasized understanding the root causes of illness and how to manage full health. Dr. Varshney witnessed her grandfather meditate for three hours at a time, and learned how a daily regimen of fresh food, healthy sleep, exercise, positive social connections, and avoidance of harmful substances prolongs both life and its quality.

Her parents incorporated this way of living into their own family model, and it became part of Dr. Varshney’s being at a very young age.

As an adult coordinating the care of her parents, Dr. Varshney was disturbed and disheartened by the challenges and difficulties of navigating the current healthcare system. Seeing it through the eyes of a vulnerable patient, she developed a strong desire to establish a practice where the physician prioritizes communication with patients and families.

Medical school and residency

After high school, Dr. Varshney attended the University of Alabama at Birmingham, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in biology. She then pursued the study of medicine, receiving her medical degree from The Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine. She completed her residency in internal medicine at Lutheran General Hospital. Upon graduation she received the Humanitarian Award, given to the resident who best exemplifies the humanitarian spirit.

Professional practice

Dr. Varshney was awarded a National Health Care Scholarship from the federal government. It led to her first professional position, with a Federally Qualified Health Center where she cared for an underserved population. She then transitioned to Advanced Healthcare which has ultimately become Advocate Aurora Healthcare where she served as a primary care physician until 2023.

The inspiration for Sansara

Dr. Varshney’s evolution as a physician during her career has led to Sansara Concierge Medicine, a practice that combines her personal learning with her professional training. She recently completed extra training to become certified in Health and Wellness / Lifestyle medicine through Harvard’s Executive Education Program. Fundamentally, Dr. Varshney believes that human beings have the capacity to feel better and can benefit from a guide in their quest for wellness. Dr. Varshney strives to have a positive impact on her patients, knowing that such an influence can extend to the ones they love. Recognizing the interconnectedness of health and life, Sansara uses a holistic approach that incorporates lifestyle medicine with primary care. Dr. Varshney’s goal is to unlock human potential and help her patients become their optimum selves.
